IO 1 Report of the recording the existing status and institutional/legal framework in each country

This report is the first result of the research project and focuses on the legal context in the four European countries participating in the project, Denmark, Greece, Iceland and Italy. The aim of this research is to unveil the legal obstacles that may hinder access to higher education for people with fewer opportunities.

IO1 gives an overview of the legal status in the involved countries concerning the institutional and legal framework for entering and studying in higher education. It aims at providing an outline of the national systems set up regulating the conditions for entering higher education for people with fewer opportunities, with the main emphasis put on the barriers to access but focusing also on other related issues. People with fewer opportunities in APELE are people with educational difficulties, cultural differences and geographical obstacles.

IO 3 Need analysis of target group

The IO3 is a need analysis report and is the third output in the project. In order to improve access to higher institutions for people with fewer opportunities, it is important to hear from the target group themselves.

IO3 aims to record and explore what are the needs, recommendations, expectations and barriers of the projects target group in the educational system of the four participating countries. To record what really is needed to be done in order to help and encourage the target group to continue studies in a European University. The collection of the needs has been done by using questionnaires.

IO 4 Template portfolio developed for final stakeholders

The overall aim of IO4, which is the fourth report of the project, is to give the target group the perspective to build a personal portfolio where they will record their formal and informal qualifications.

The working groups of the project will be teaching the target group how to build a portfolio in a creative and innovative way, so that the result of IO4 will be beneficial in terms of motivation and quality.

The result of IO4 will be a well-organized method and template for individuals where they will be able to”record” themselves, not only the target group of IO4 but other future target groups.

IO 5 Proposed evaluation methods.

Intellectual Output 5 is the last report of the project, it is highly innovative as it aims to improve the models of, HE Students’ entering and study. It is innovative by any means for many countries that have not yet established prior learning recognition procedures.

The main expected impact is in enhancing access to HE all over Europe but more specifically those having fewer formal qualifications. The procedure is poised to be immediately used in other contexts outside of the APELE Project and potentially in other fields of education.
